| Botswana has been performing well over the
past 35 years since its independence in 1966. This success has been
widely attributed to sound economic policies, especially in managing
its large diamond resources, and a commitment to democratic principles.
As a result of this heavy dependence on the mining sector, the government
has embarked on a policy to diversify the economy away from this sector
and has encouraged foreign investment in export –oriented industries.
Tourism is one of the sectors government hopes will be developed as
Botswana is also home to some of the worlds best tourist sites.
